11U - 12U Competitive

Birth Year 2012, 2013 and Incoming 2014

The 9V9 Competitive Program is designed for 11U and 12U players who want to play competitive soccer at a higher level and eventually play HS soccer. All teams have a paid Professional Coach. Teams use a size four (4) soccer ball. Skyline focuses on individual technical development and compliments this with tactical training so each player reaches their full potential. The complete player excels in four major areas: technical ability, tactical intelligence, physical abilities, and psychological characteristics. Players are given annual assessments by each team coach as part of their own unique individual player development plan.

Commitment/Attendance

At the 11U-12U age groups, players make a year-long commitment (August - May), including both a Fall and Spring Season. Players are expected to attend all training sessions and games to the best of their ability. Players, Team and Coaches will play all home and away games.  In the event that a team is not able to field a full roster for a game, they must reschedule within the season window of a reschedule are exhausted.  Skyline does not support or accept forfeits and forfeit fees will be paid by the team.  See Refund Policy under Club Info/Policies.

Practice Fields

The majority of Competitive Practices are at Kennedy Soccer Complex. Teams train three times per week for ~75 minutes at a location and time determined by Skyline and your Coach.

Teamwork makes the Dream Work!

  • Encourage players to be good leaders and upstanding citizens.  Let’s strive to be fierce competitors AND good sports!
  • Please talk to your players about being a good teammate; respecting themselves, each other, opponents, referees and coaches.
  • Be accountable. If you make a mistake, own it. Give kind, but constructive criticism and accept the same.
  • Control what you can control. Strive to be the best YOU can be!

Teams playing the Front Range and Advance league must comply with CSA roster limitations, age restrictions and player verification rules.  Players and team MUST travel to ALL away games regardless of distance.

At the Competitive level, playing time is not equal but earned. Playing time is at the coaches’ discretion and takes into consideration absenteeism, tardiness, or general behavior issues in addition to skill of the player, quality of opponent, and competition.

Soccer is an incredible teacher of life lessons. Team sports develop kids both physically and mentally. They will learn how to win, and lose. It nurtures leadership, cooperation, sportsmanship, perseverance, problem solving and prepares them for the world!

Parents are encouraged to support their player and team in a fashion that breeds a positive and respectful learning environment.

Please let the Coaches teach/instruct the game to players in games and at practice.

To best ensure a positive learning environment, parents should refrain from directional coaching on the sidelines while applauding positive plays and encouraging effort.

After all, parents are the best role models for our players: please respect our players, coaches, opponents, and referees.

Remember: “Let the players play, let the coaches coach, and let the referees ref!”

After registration is completed, our Skyline Administrators will send uniform order details by email. Our uniforms are ordered through Soccer.com. Like many clubs, we purchase new uniforms on a 2 year cycle under contract of our uniform manufacturer.

Skyline is an Adidas club and requires all players to purchase and wear the approved Adidas uniform. Skyline runs on a two year uniform cycle. We are presently in the fall 2023 to spring 2025 cycle. The next two year cycle will begin in fall 2025.

The cost of the new full kit is about $300-$320 (based on youth or adult sizes. Adult sizes include womens fit). Sweat suits and bags are an optional purchase.

For more details and to order your uniform, please visit our Uniforms page.

How are Teams Formed?  Teams are formed through the tryout process. At tryouts, players will be evaluated in four key areas: technical ability, tactical intelligence, physical attributes, and psychological elements. Once tryouts are complete, Skyline coaches will contact each player within 72 hours to notify them of their result. Players who receive an invitation to play on a Competitive team have 24 hours to accept/decline their invitation.

What if My Player is Unable to Attend Tryouts? For players who are unable to make tryouts but are interested in playing in the Competitive program, please do the following: 1) Register online for tryouts, so your player is counted and included.

2) Email the Director of Coaching: dawn@skylinesoccer.org. This will ensure your player does not get marked as a “no show” at tryouts.

What if My Player Missed Tryouts? Players looking to join Competitive, but missed tryouts need to contact their Director of Coaching to see what options may be available.

What Happens if My Player is Not Placed on a Team?  If your player is not extended an invitation to play Competitive soccer, your player will have a home in the Academy or Recreational program. Skyline works diligently with these players to ensure they can continue playing soccer.

Can My Player Play Up? At Skyline, we do have a few players who ‘play up.’ but these players are the exception. All players who play up at the Competitive level will need approval from their Director of Coaching. When determining whether a player is ready to play up, the player must be ready soccer-wise, physically, and socially.

How Do I Know Who Will be Coaching My Team? Most coaching assignments will be confirmed and announced before Tryouts. For any teams who do not have a confirmed coach, the Director of Coaching will be in charge of the team until a coach is confirmed. While Skyline makes every effort to avoid in-season coaching changes, there are circumstances where a coaching change will be made.

When are Competitive Payments Due? Once a player verbally accepts their position with the coach, they must register online within 24 hours for the appropriate team. The fees will appear on that player’s account and a minimum non-refundable deposit of $250 is due. Families are welcome to pay the full amount, otherwise, they will select an online payment plan. Payment amounts required on each payment plan date is dependent on the player’s team and age group.

Do Teams Play in Tournaments? Yes, Competitive teams participate in at least one tournament per season (one in the fall, one in the spring). Tournaments are determined by the Coach and Director of Coaching. Tournament Fees are not included in the price of Competitive Registration and will be divided by all rostered players. Additional coach fees, and travel expenses will also be collected by the Team Manager (or team administrator) for those attending the tournament. Travel may be required to participate in a tournament.

How Much Travel is Involved? Competitive teams compete on a state level within the Advanced Leagues run by Colorado Soccer Association. Teams typically have 4 home and 4 away games. Most games will be in the Denver metro area; however, there is a potential for games to be as far away as Steamboat, Vail, Grand Junction and Pueblo. Each Competitive team will typically have one or two games per season where travel time is greater than two hours each way.

What if my Team cannot make a game?

We ask that Coaches, Parents and Players fulfill their commitment and support everyone's soccer experience by participating in all home and away games. All games are MANDATORY for your team to play. Reschedules are allowed, but must be done in advance of the game. By signing the registration waiver, you agree to traveling to ALL games regardless of the distance. Skyline will help get guest players or help to reschedule games when teams don't have enough players, but forfeits are not allowed and will incur an exceptional fine. Colorado Soccer Association (CSA) fines will be charged directly to members of the forfeiting team.

Can My Player Guest Play with Other Teams? Yes! Players will often get the opportunity to play with other Skyline teams. Prior to guest playing for any team, players must get approval from their Coach, as well as the Director of Coaching.

What do Teams do During the Summer? Skyline does not require Competitive teams to schedule activities during summer; however, players are encouraged to continue finding opportunities to improve individually. We offer private and small group training and great Advanced Summer Camps! With approval, Competitive Teams can participate in summer leagues and/or tournaments. Any additional programs are not covered in the Competitive registration fees.

What do Teams do During the Winter?  Skyline does not require Competitive teams to practice or play over Winter Break; however, players are encouraged to participate in individual training programs such as Winter Camp, Skill Sessions, Strength and Agility Training, Indoor League or Futsal. With approval, Competitive teams may choose to participate in winter leagues, training and/or tournaments. Any additional leagues, or tournaments are not covered in the Competitive registration fees.
