Our Grasshopper (2.5 through 3 year old) and Munchkin (4 up to 5 year old) program is specifically designed for the beginner player. We place an emphasis on introducing players to the very basics of soccer in a high-energy, fun environment through interactive and imaginary games.
Our Grasshoppers (2.5-3yr) play for 45 minutes and Munchkins (4-5.5yr, up to 5.5 for Summer and Fall only) (For Spring players 5 and up will need to play with their birth year) for 60 minutes.
The cost for each six week program is $85.
Each session kicks off with a fun group warm-up, followed by activities led by your team’s coach (volunteer parent) at your field. Teams will also participate in scrimmages within the program time that you sign up for towards the end of the season.

Goals
Skyline’s philosophy is, “To Teach, To Inspire, and To Excel.” We strive to instill this philosophy in every player, at every level – regardless of their experience or age. To achieve this, we apply an age-appropriate training model as laid out by Skyline’s Player Development Plan. By the time players graduate from our Munchkin program they should:
Developmental Focus
Communication, Cooperation and Respect
Endurance, Agility, Balance, Speed, and Strength
Motivation, Attitude and Self Confidence
Mechanics of Individual Skills
Choosing When, Why, What, and Where in Games
Here is what to expect leading up to and during the soccer season:
Each player will receive a t-shirt included in the cost of registration to be distributed at your field on the first day of class.
Your player should wear their shirt each week along with a shorts, shinguards, athletic shoes (cleats are optional), and weather appropriate clothing if necessary. We also recommend bringing a water bottle (or two if its hot!).
All additional equipment goals, pinnies, cones, and balls will be provided and set-up for your player at your field.
Player Expectations: Players are expected to wear their Skyline jersey along with athletic shoes, shin-guards, and weather appropriate clothing as necessary. Your player’s jersey is included in the cost of registration and provided on the first day. We also recommend bringing along a water bottle (or two if it’s hot!). Cleats for this age group are optional, and shinguards can be purchased at Dick’s Sporting Goods or Target.
Parent Expectations: In the Grasshopper and Munchkin program, parent involvement is sometimes crucial for developing a fun, long lasting relationship with the game of soccer. If your player is struggling to participate in a game or activity, you are more than welcome to step-in and help out. You should also step-in to address any cases of misbehavior. We also hope that that you communicate any concerns or issues that you have with the Grasshopper and Munchkin Program – please advise either a Skyline staff person at your program location or contact the Grasshopper and Munchkin Program Director. We strive to ensure all of our members and Grasshopper and Munchkin players have as positive an experience as possible.
Coach Expectations: The success of our Grasshopper and Munchkin program depends on our dedicated, volunteer parent coaches! Our parent coaches are expected to be at each session and bring a positive attitude. Skyline staff will ensure that all equipment is set up at each field. Coaches receive a coaching plan to follow the week before each session, and are expected to facilitate these activities with their team to ensure each player learns the same age-appropriate skills. Becoming a coach is an easy and rewarding process, and we encourage anyone who is interested in coaching to contact our office.
GRASSHOPPER AND MUNCHKINS FRIEND REQUEST POLICY
With every season of Grasshopper and Munchkin programming here at Skyline, there is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes on to ensure each player is set up to have the best experience possible. One of the things we try to do in G&M is offer each player the chance to request to be on the same team as their friends. Due to the sheer number of registrants each season, which often reaches well over 1300 players for the spring season alone, it takes a delicate balancing act to create a roster. Below you’ll find our policy on friend requests as well as the reasoning behind it and some of the issues that often arise.
G&M is happy to accept friend requests from each player when they are registering for a season. Although we cannot guarantee your request, we always do our best to honor them and have a very high success rate at it. There are many factors why we cannot always honor a request, the most common ones are listed below. Due to this we suggest you register your player early and get your friend requests in early.
Reasons we cannot honor a request.
What you can do to better your chances of a request being honored?
PRACTICE CANCELLATION
Practices will only be cancelled by the Skyline Organization for the following reasons:
1. Unsafe playing conditions, including lightning or heavy rain before or during a practice.
2. Field closures by Denver Parks and Recreation. When there is excessive rain or snow, Denver Parks and Recreation reserves the right to close their fields to all permit holders. In the event that Denver Parks and Recreation decides to close a field, Skyline Soccer will update their website to reflect the closures and the G&M Directors will notify all parents/guardians via email no later than 4:00pm on Weekdays and 8:00am on Weekends. If you don’t receive an email by 4:00pm on Weekdays or 8:00am on Weekends and the weather is questionable, you should assume that practice will go on as scheduled. WE CAN STILL CANCEL PRACTICE AT THE FIELDS.
NOTE: ALL PARK/FIELD CLOSURES ARE AT THE DISCRETION OF DENVER PARKS AND RECREATION, NOT SKYLINE SOCCER.
3. If the weather is questionable (ie dark skys or a weather forecast for heavy rain) but you do not receive an email from Johanna, we will plan on holding practice. If practice begins and during practice it starts to rain heavily or there is lighting, we can decide to cancel at the field. This is to eliminate having to cancel a practice just because weather looks bad, only to have it clear up at the beginning or during practice…you know, typical Colorado weather.
Please note: If Denver Parks and Recreation does NOT close a field due to weather we are required to attempt to hold practice if we hold the permit for that day and time. Failure to do so results in potentially having our field permits pulled for future use.
Practices will not be cancelled for:
1.Cold weather
2.Hot weather
3.Light rain/snow
